A. T. Matthews & Dier Moves to Coffeen Street, Watertown
Posted by dougdier - 22/02/08 at 01:02:01 pmA.T. Matthews & Dier, Watertown NY, formally located at Empsall Plaza has moved to 636 Coffeen Street, Watertown, NY 13601. The insurance agency’s office officially opened on February 19th – where substantial renovations have been made to the previous Happy Ear Stereo building. Douglas Dier purchased the century old insurance agency in April of 2000 and continued to operate from their downtown Watertown location. The agency has realized considerable growth over the past eight years and more space was needed as a result of the increase. The firm currently employs seven full time persons and several part-time, along with two additional sales representatives. In conjunction of offering property and casualty insurance, the firm also sells financial related products and retirement programs to businesses and individuals.
The agency was originally established by Adrian Thomas Matthews in 1903 and was operated by three generations, including Richard Matthews, and most recently by Thomas L. Matthews. Thomas later retired from the insurance agency in 2000. During the move Douglas Dier discovered that a brochure rack purchased in the agency sale was custom built and signed, and then it was given to the agency founder by The Travelers in 1925. That piece will stay in use at the Coffeen Street location.
A. T. Matthews and Dier is an Independent Insurance Agency that operates in the city of Watertown offering both commercial and personal insurance. In conjunction to the growth of the business, the agency has realized considerable enhancements in automation and has operated in a paperless environment since March of 2004. Because of the agency’s utilization of technology and management systems, they were featured in an article in the Erie Insurance Group publication, Agent Exchange, June 2006 edition titled, “Model of Efficiency.”
